    Controlled Burning Programs

Lower your risk and strengthen your burn plans by working with someone who brings the combined lens of a Registered Professional Forester and AFE-certified Fire Ecologist, along with government credentials as a Burn Boss, Fire Behaviour Analyst, and Fire Effects Monitor.

I support communities, organizations, and agencies in planning and implementing prescribed fire and cultural burning, from start to finish. That includes funding strategies, communications, permit navigation, burn day operations, and post-burn reporting and monitoring. I don’t just hand over a plan, I work alongside you, because fire programs are most successful when they come from within the communities they serve.

With my background, you get planning that’s practical, ecological, and defensible, with a clear path to safe and effective fire on the ground.

What Story Do You Want Your Fire to Tell?

With over 20 years of experience in fire effects monitoring, I can help you design a program that goes beyond checking a box, one that tells a story grounded in science, culture, and land stewardship.

I have been trained in multiple monitoring systems, from the Fire Monitoring Handbook to the Fuels Characteristic Classification System, FNESS Cultural FEMO, and Composite Burn Index. I’ve applied these tools in real-world projects across ecosystems and objectives. I hold certification as a Fire Effects Monitor, helped design and instruct the BCWS S-244 FOBS/FEMO and host long-term fire effects monitoring workshops.

Monitoring is a critical part of any burn plan or prescription. It helps us evaluate success, refine future treatments, and better understand our impact on the ecosystem over time. Just as importantly, it informs public outreach and supports the shared responsibility of land stewardship.

Monitoring is never one-size-fits-all, it’s tailored to your goals, your landscape, and the story you want to share.

    Professional Development

Prescribed fire is both science and art grounded in solid fire behaviour knowledge, but shaped by your personal experience on the ground. You don’t need to know everything before you start. That’s where I come in.

I’m here to help you build the skills and confidence to plan, light, and monitor controlled burns with purpose. From writing fuels and burn prescriptions to understanding fire behaviour and leading firing operations, I’ve supported hundreds of professionals through workshops, mentorship, and hands-on training.

I’ve had the privilege of mentoring future Burn Bosses, Firing Bosses, Holding Bosses, and Fire Effects Monitors, from government agencies to First Nation fire crews, municipal fire departments, forestry contractors, and independent consultants. Every course is tailored to the people in the room and the projects you’re planning.
