This checklist provides a practical roadmap for building a prescribed fire program, from identifying potential burn areas and securing funding through planning, training, burn-day preparation, monitoring, and post-burn learning. It is designed to help land and project managers organize responsibilities, track progress, and build a sustainable program over time.
Burn Program Checklist
A chronological guide showing what the you lead, where BCWS may support, and which organization holds the lead at each stage of a prescribed fire project. It follows the process from identifying a burn opportunity through planning, approvals, agreements, burn-day readiness, operations, mop-up, monitoring and lessons learned. Not everything will apply to your project.
Roles and Responsibilities
A detailed pre-burn readiness checklist for municipal and regional prescribed fire projects. It walks teams through approvals, permits, environmental and utility requirements, field preparation, staffing, communications, weather and smoke planning, burn-day checks, operations, mop-up, patrol, reporting and closeout so responsibilities are confirmed before ignition.
