British Columbia Burn Plan
A GUIDEBOOK TO THE BCWS BURN PLAN TEMPLATE
I created this burn plan guidance document to support the communities I work with, and now I’m sharing a less detailed version widely in case it helps others, too.
It’s free because I believe in supporting good fire practices across the province. My aim is to help more people develop clear, practical, and field-ready burn plans that are grounded in sound fire knowledge. Always double-check for legislative updates.
A good plan doesn’t need to be complicated, just thoughtful and easy to follow. If this guide gives even a few teams more confidence in their work, then it’s done what it’s meant to do.

BURN COMPLEXITY RATING
This version keeps the complexity analysis to one page.
Step 1: Use this workseet to determine the burn complexity for your project by adding up the score for each element.
Step 2: Save your work and paste an image of the worksheet to the burn plan under the heading of your burn complexity analysis.
